ALEXEI J. SLATER - WRITER

Alexei has written three novel manuscripts and a novella and is working towards representation for his first two US set crime thrillers.

Crime novelist and editor Russel D McLean recently assessed Alexei`s manuscript via Jericho Writers, stating ‘there`s a great sense of pace and drama from the outset and the last third of the book really does work nicely in giving us a Kingesque vibe mixed with Jefferey Deaver/Thomas Harris’. Russel also wrote the book contains ‘a mainstream approach to the genre’, ‘a readably pacy voice’ and ‘a big hook’, and continued, ‘there`s a lot of strong work here’ and ‘you could be close to testing the market with the work’. Since childhood, Alexei`s first ambition was to be a fiction writer. He has written many short stories including 'The Taxidermist' published in the 2023 crime anthology from Murderous Ink Press available in paperback and eBook: www.amazon.co.uk/Crimeucopia-More-Thing-Worry-About.  Alexei`s story 'Dubois, Wyoming' reached the Quarterfinals of Screencraft`s 2022 Cinematic Short Story Writing Competition.

After his English Literature degree Alexei worked for 7 years in production and development at HandMade Films (founded by Beatle, George Harrison). Forming Turn The Slate Productions in 2011, Alexei made 8 award winning short films including '82' directed by 2026 BAFTA Nominee Calum 'Cal McMau' Macdiarmid.

Alexei has written 'spec' scripts for shorts, plays, TV pilots and features and continues to develop film and TV concepts while also consulting on work from early filmmakers. Alexei also works in development for film financier Ikigai International and is a co-executive producer on the 2025 US thriller 'Closure' starring Hollywood stalwarts Michael Kelly, Dennis Haysbert, Kevin Pollak and BAFTA & EMMY Nominee, Mena Suvari.

Some of Alexei`s favourite authors in the genre include Thomas Harris, David Baldacci, Michael Connelly, Stephen King, Karin Slaughter, Ellison Cooper, Dennis Lehane and Karen Ellis.

Alexei attended Capital Crime 2024 & Capital Crime 2025 and Karin Slaughter`s Slaughterfest 2025 - where he met fellow writers, readers and bloggers and enjoyed the inspiring panels from the UK`s leading crime and thriller authors.
